(Bolt Matching Section at End)
(Note: This section revised/updated as of 15 March 2018.)
This parts exchange is run as a free service by BANZAI for collectors of Japanese rifles who either are looking for parts for rifles they have or have rifle parts they no longer need. There is no charge to either buyer or seller; all transactions are strictly between buyer and seller.
If you have parts you want to sell or trade please put a realistic price on them and specify whether or not the price includes shipping. Please describe as carefully as possible the condition of the part and whether or not the part is completely original. Repro parts are allowed as long as they are clearly identified as repros.Remember this parts exchange is NOT being run as a business. There is at least for now no charge associated with its use. If you wish to sell a part for say $5 then the potential buyer will contact you directly and arrange payment directly to you.
Try to be realistic with your prices. Although the part may be rare, most parts, unlike complete guns, have value only to the person who needs them. You want to find the parts you need at a reasonable price, so remember that when you set the price on the parts you’re selling since presumably we here are all both buyers and sellers. E-mail me ( SZielinski98@gmail.com ) with a list of the parts you either have to sell or are looking for.
Note: Complete bolts or bolt bodies should be listed in the Bolt Matching Section (see below).
All buyers and sellers will be assigned a 4 digit identification number when registering (with the moderator). There are 2 reasons for this. To organize the information efficiently, i.e., if the same person has 10 parts to sell and these parts are for several different rifles then listing a 4 digit ID with each part will save space instead of listing a full address. Also by using an ID system hopefully we can keep this parts exchange for collectors and not for those whose only interest is buying parts to resell at a profit.
If you want to contact a buyer or seller just send me an email ( SZielinski98@gmail.com ) with the 4 digit ID of the buyer or seller and I will send you his name and e-mail address.
Organization of the Site
To find what you need, first scroll down to the rifle model you need parts for. Then scroll down to the parts group that contains that part. For example, if you’re looking for a front band for a Model 38 rifle, scroll down to Model 38 rifle, and then under Model 38 rifle scroll down to stock as that is the category under which bands are listed. (The organization of this site is subject to change based on users comments and suggestions.) If your category is not listed then that means no one has that part currently for sale. Initially this will be a single list; as the list grows it will be broken down into individual pages for each model.
Hints and Suggestions
Since this is a first try at such a project, CONSTRUCTIVE criticism/comments are encouraged. (E-mail to SZielinski98@gmail.com .)
If you have parts for sale (or trade) you might want to check and see if anyone is looking for those parts before you list them.
If the parts you’re looking for are fairly common you might want to check with the following companies who sell Japanese rifle parts, both original and reproductions. (If anyone knows of additional sources let me know so they can be listed here. This site has no connection with any of the firms or individuals listed here.)

IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU HAVE BEEN MISLED/CHEATED BY SOMEONE WHO LISTED PARTS HERE E-MAIL ME (SZielinski98@gmail.com ) SO APPROPRIATE ACTION CAN BE TAKEN.
Please Note
A site like this is worthwhile only if it is kept up to date. If you do sell (or otherwise no longer have) the parts listed please let me know as soon as possible. Nothing is more frustrating (as I can attest from personal experience) than finding out a part you thought available was in fact sold long ago.

Revised 4-22-19
Japanese Rifle Bolt Matching
Exchange
Introduction
This is a revised version of the old
bolt matching entry on the Gunboards Japanese Trader
board. Hopefully this can be kept up to date so if you recognize a number you
submitted in the past which is no longer valid because you sold it, etc., send
me an email at: SZielinski98@gmail.com so I can correct the entry.
Numbers with an asterisk in front
indicate the number is from the old list from Don Voigt. Any suggestions on
format, content, etc., should be sent to SZielinski98@gmail.com.
Instructions
To list a bolt you want to buy, send
the rifle’s series (if applicable) and serial number along with your contact
information (name and email and/or regular mail address; both are better as
either is subject to change). To list a bolt you want to sell send the bolt
number and as much additional information about the bolt (complete, matching, any
inspection markings (use the id numbers from the Model 99 data sheet), whether
the face is chrome plated or not, price. etc.) as possible along with your
contact information (name and email and/or regular mail address). There is no
charge for a listing here and all transactions are strictly between buyer and
seller.
If you’re interested in contacting the
person listing the bolt send me his contact number and I’ll send you his
contact information.
Send all emails to: SZielinski98@gmail.com.
Please read this carefully
before you consider changing your bolt.
It is most important that you are
certain that the bolt you have is mismatched. While some model Japanese rifles had
bolts matched to the rifle by the rifle’s serial number (see below) not all
used this method of matching the bolt to the rifle. Check below to determine if
your bolt is matching or not.
Murata 13 and 18 Year Model
Rifles and Carbines
Murata 13 and 18 Year Model rifles and
carbines have their bolts matched by the full serial number. Many of these were
later used for training rifles so missing bolts were replaced with a bolt
marked with a Japanese character and up to three digits.
Murata Magazine Rifles and
Carbines
Murata magazine rifles and carbines
have their bolts matched by the full serial number with one exception. Some
were later rebuilt and the new bolt was matched to the rifle by an assembly
number, consisting of a Japanese character followed by a number of up to three
digits. If the bolt in your rifle or carbine has such an assembly number on it,
check your rifle or carbine for a corresponding assembly number before you
decide it is mismatched.
Model 30 Rifles and Carbines
/ Naval Model 35 Rifles
Model 30 rifles & carbines and
Naval Model 35 rifles have bolts that were originally stamped with the weapon’s
assembly number represented by a single Japanese character followed by up to
three Arabic numbers. No examples have surfaced which were overhauled and bolts
matched by the last three digits of the serial number as is the typical
treatment of later weapons.
Model 38 Rifles and Carbines
Early Model 38 rifles and carbines
manufactured by the Tokyo Arsenal have bolts that were originally stamped with
the weapon’s assembly number represented by a single Japanese character
followed by up to three Arabic numbers. Arsenal overhauled Tokyo Arsenal-made
weapons often have the bolts re-matched by the last three digits of the serial
number. Rifles and carbines manufactured by the Kokura, Nagoya, Jinsen and Hoten (Mukden)
Arsenals are matched by the last three numbers of the serial number.
Model 44 Carbines
Early Model 44 carbines manufactured
by the Tokyo Arsenal have bolts that were originally stamped with the weapon’s
assembly number represented by a single Japanese character followed by up to
three Arabic numbers. Arsenal overhauled Tokyo Arsenal-made weapons often have
the bolts re-matched by the last three digits of the serial number. Model 44
carbines manufactured by the Kokura and Nagoya Arsenals are matched by the last
three numbers of the serial number.
Model 99
Early Model 99 long rifles and some
very early short rifles were matched by an assembly number, not the serial
number. Later bolts were matched by the last three digits of the rifle’s serial
number. Thus in each complete series (which had numbers from 1 to 99999) there
were 81 bolts with the same three digit number. However to find a proper
matching bolt requires more than just finding the right numbered bolt. Bolts
differ by manufacturer and often even the same manufacturer modified the
appearance of the bolt as the war progressed and attempts were made to speed up
production by eliminating some manufacturing steps or changing the design,
e.g., the shape of the knob on the bolt handle. To find a proper matching bolt,
study the data sheets on the Banzai web site for appropriate inspection
markings or go to The Japanese Type 99 Arisaka
Rifle book to know what bolt characteristics and proof marks the bolt for
your rifle should have.

Numbers with an asterisk
* in front are from the old listing and may or may not be still valid.
I have not
listed training rifle bolts as these are often “one of a kind.” However if
there is any interest I will add a category for training rifle bolts.
